Legend: Identify Patterns in a Canvas
Use the Legend to quickly identify which patterns are in your canvas and highlight them on-screen, especially when your canvas contains multiple vehicles or many parts.
Purpose: Use the Legend to quickly identify which patterns are in your canvas and highlight them on-screen.
Applies to: STEK EDGE (current version) — Canvas → Legend
Time to complete: ~1 minute
Audience: Any user (Installer / Shop staff)
Why this matters
- Problem: After adding many patterns (especially across multiple vehicles), it’s easy to lose track of which part belongs to which vehicle during layout.
- What EDGE improves: The Legend lists vehicles and parts and lets you click an item to highlight it on the canvas.
- Result: Faster layout, fewer mix-ups, and more confidence before plotting.
What this feature does
- What it is: A right-side canvas panel listing all patterns loaded in your canvas, typically grouped by vehicle.
- What it helps you do: Identify and select patterns without guessing, and keep the canvas organized while moving parts for plotting.
- What it does not do (optional): It is not guaranteed to list every custom or heavily modified object.
Videos
Video — Legend (Identify patterns + highlight on canvas)
Covers: Opening the Legend, reading the vehicle/part list, and selecting items to highlight them in the canvas.
When to use: Any time your canvas contains many pieces or multiple vehicles.
Before you start
- You need: A canvas with at least one pattern loaded.
- Recommended: Use the Legend as a final check before plotting to confirm the correct parts are loaded.
- Terms used (optional): Highlight = visual emphasis; Vehicle container patterns = library patterns that typically display correctly in the panel.
How to use it
Workflow A — Recommended (identify and select patterns by name)
- Open the Legend
Where: Canvas → right-side panel area
Do: Open the Legend.
Expected result: A list of patterns currently in the canvas appears. - Review vehicles and parts
Where: Legend list
Do: Expand a vehicle entry (if grouped) and review the part names.
Expected result: You can see which vehicles and which parts are loaded. - Click a part to locate it
Where: Legend item
Do: Click a part name.
Expected result: That pattern is highlighted on the canvas. - Move the correct part
Where: Canvas
Do: After confirming the part, move it into your layout.
Expected result: You avoid mixing parts from different vehicles.
Workflow B — Verification checklist (before plotting)
- Scan for completeness
Where: Legend
Do: Confirm all intended parts are present.
Expected result: You know what will be plotted before sending the job. - Confirm similar-looking parts
Where: Legend + canvas highlight
Do: Click parts that look similar and verify they belong to the correct vehicle/side.
Expected result: Reduced risk of plotting the wrong part.
Important limitation
Some objects may not appear in the Legend, including heavily modified patterns, custom shapes, and imported patterns that do not match the expected format.
Tips
- Use the Legend whenever you have multiple vehicles in one canvas.
- Click the part name first, then move it to reduce accidental selection errors.
- If a pattern is not listed, track it manually and keep a clean copy when possible.
Common mistakes
- Mistake: Moving patterns first, then guessing what they are → Fix: Identify via Legend before moving pieces.
- Mistake: Assuming every object will appear → Fix: Remember the limitation for heavily modified/custom/imported objects.
- Mistake: Mixing similar-looking parts across vehicles → Fix: Click the part in the Legend to highlight it before placing.
Troubleshooting
Issue: A pattern is not listed in the Legend
Cause: The pattern is heavily modified, custom, or imported without the expected identification properties
Fix: Track it manually and keep a clean version when possible.
Issue: Clicking a part does not clearly show it
Cause: Overlap with other pieces or zoom level
Fix: Zoom in/out and temporarily move overlapping patterns, then click again from the Legend.
Wrap-up
You used the Legend to see which vehicles and parts are loaded in your canvas and to highlight specific patterns on demand. This keeps your workflow organized and reduces the risk of plotting the wrong part.
